History[1]Edit[]

Before Birth[2]Edit[]

Annabeth's dad, Frederick Chase, met Athena, the goddess of wisdom and strategy while he was studying history at Harvard. Athena helped him get through his studies and consequently, they fell in love. Shortly after in 1993, as a gift to Frederick, Athena sent him Annabeth, who was considered a "brain child" like all other children of Athena. Annabeth appeared in a golden cradle carried down from Olympus by Zephyrus, the west wind. Her father askedAthena to take Annabeth to Olympus and raise her there but Athena told him that heroes were raised by their mortal parents, and not their godly parent, so he had no choice but to take her in and care for her as well as he could; however, he failed.

Childhood[3]Edit[]

Monsters attacked. We argued. Monsters attacked. We argued.

–-Annabeth Chase, talking about her stepmother, in The Lightning Thief

When Annabeth was five, her father got married. He and his wife had two kids together, Matthew and Bobby, who Percy meets in The Titan's Curse. Because Annabeth was a demigod, her family was constantly being attacked by monsters, causing constant fighting between Annabeth and her parents, as they felt that she was always putting them in danger. Annabeth felt that her step-mom thought that she was a freak, so she ran away from home at age seven because she believed that she was not wanted at home. She then fought monsters with the guidance of her mother, Athena, for a few months, using only a mortal hammer. Annabeth was later found by Luke Castellanand Thalia Grace. When they found her, Annabeth hid behind a piece of metal, and then tried to attack them with her hammer, but Luke knocked it out of her hand. After being able to befriend her, Luke gave her a celestial bronze knife and said that only a clever girl could use knives like this one. They traveled many places together until they were brought to camp by Grover, a satyr . She never wanted to go back home and considers Camp Half-Blood her home since she has lived there for most of her life, starting from seven years old. Therefore, she is the youngest to ever join Camp.

Meeting Thalia Grace and Luke Castellan[4]Edit[]

Annabeth was hiding under a sheet of corrugated iron in Richmond Ironworks in the same alley Thalia Grace andLuke Castellan were hiding in. Thalia and Luke heard a noise coming from it and investigate the sound. After removing the sheet of iron, Annabeth ran toward Luke with a hammer and almost hit him with it, thinking he was a monster. Upon finding that Annabeth was a demigod, Luke and Thalia agreed that she could run away with them and Luke promised that he wouldn't let anything hurt her and they would become a better family than her old family, but later in the series, Luke betrays her because Kronos was controlling him. Luke gave Annabeth abronze knife so she would be able to protect herself with something better than a hammer for monster slaying (that bronze knife became "the cursed blade," in the Great Prophecy). Together, they were on the run, fighting monsters and making hideouts on the East coast, like the one Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson used in Jamestown, Virginia.

The Cyclops[5]Edit[]

Eventually, they ran into Grover, a satyr, who took them to camp, but took some wrong turns on the way. One of these was into a Cyclops lair, and everyone but Annabeth was captured. Annabeth, after wandering around, found where he was keeping Thalia, Luke and Grover. They were hanging over a pot. The Cyclops tried to lure Annabeth to him by imitating her dad's voice, but instead of going to the voice and getting captured as well, she stabbed it hard on the foot and untied Thalia, who then took care of everything else. That explained why Annabeth didn't trust Tyson (who thinks she is very pretty). He is Percy's half-brother and evidently, is a Cyclops. Though later in life Annabeth starts to trust Tyson and they become good friends.

Thalia's Pine Tree[6]Edit[]

Despite their escape, they were delayed long enough for the pack of monsters pursuing them to catch up. They couldn't outrun them, so Thalia made the ultimate sacrifice; she said she would stay behind so Annabeth, Luke and Grover could make it safely to Half-Blood Hill. It is unknown whether she actually fought the monsters or not, but she most likely fought them and was mortally wounded. Zeus, feeling sorry for his daughter, saved her life by turning her into a pine tree, later renamed Thalia's Pine Tree. This tree became a barrier for the camp against monsters and mortals unless they were invited over the barrier by someone from inside the camp.

Hearing the Prophecy [7]Edit[]

When Annabeth was 10 years old, she heard the Great Prophecy. She has had nightmares about it ever since. Every time a new camper came to Camp Half-Blood, Annabeth wondered if they were "the one", because Chiron told her that she would have a part to play in the Great Prophecy.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians[8]Edit[]

The Lightning Thief [9]Edit[]

Annabeth first appears in The Lightning Thief at age twelve. She initially was nicknamed "Wise Girl" and she sometimes calls Percy "Seaweed Brain" instead of his actual name. She first met Percy Jackson after he was attacked by the Minotaur while fighting his way to the top of Half-Blood Hill, the entrance to Camp Half-Blood. While he is recovering from his battle wounds, she fed him ambrosia and nectar, food and drink of the gods, in theBig House. The first words she spoke to him were, "You drool when you sleep," though this was once he was conscious, having earlier asked him about the summer solstice when feeding him ambrosia. Afterward, she is very hostile toward him. She could not understand why he was the one for the Great Prophecy, and even used him as bait without telling him so she could go get the flag. She was also standing close to him during the Capture the Flag match and watched him try and take down Clarisse with little success until he lands in the water and regains strength and power.

But when she hears that he is to go on quest, she wants to go along, thinking Percy is "the one" from Chiron's prophecy and because she wants to test her abilities in the real world as she has only left the camp a few times (being, as she puts it, a "year-rounder"). Together, Annabeth, Percy, and Grover go in search of Zeus's lightning bolt because Zeus thinks that Percy stole it. While on a bus to New Jersey, the three furies come on board, and Annabeth uses her cap to hide Percy from them and hopes that Percy's smell will hide her and Grover's smells. When the bus crashes due to the fighting between the demigods and the furies, they arrive at Aunty Em's Gnome Emporium, and find that Medusa is turning people to stone. Annabeth is extremely worried because it was her mother that turned her into a monster because she was caught kissing Poseidon in one of her temples. Percy chops off Medusa's Head and they ship it off to Mount Olympus. After returning a lost dog for the reward money, they take a train and eventually arrive at the Gateway Arch, something Annabeth is very excited about as she states she wants to become an architect and tells Percy and Grover all the details of the arch. When they go to leave, Grover and Annabeth go down the elevator and meet up with Percy after he is blown out of the arch byEchidna and the Chimera.[10]Camp Half - BloodAdded by Luna-daughter of Artemis

After getting on a train out of the city, they arrive at a diner only for Ares to appear before them and give them a ride west if they get something for him inWaterland. Percy and Annabeth are reluctant because the item is in the Thrill Ride O' Love and neither feel comfortable. Once they are inside, a trap made by Hephaestus is activated and hundreds of thousands of metal spiders flood the room making Annabeth so scared she is unable to move. Percy floods the room with water from the pipes and they sail toward the exit, but the gate is closed. Annabeth uses her smarts to figure out when the best time to jump was and they make it out safely (Percy noting that if they jumped when he thought they should, they would have smashed against the gate). They eventually arrive at the Lotus Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas where they are given key cards and decide to have a nice place to sleep for the night. They start playing games and Annabeth gets really into a Sim City type game and can't bring herself to pull herself away, even after Percy tells her it is a trap. She doesn't budge until the word spider is said and she comes to her senses.

Once reaching the Underworld, they couldn't think of a way to get to Hades without passing Cerberus, until Annabeth pulled out a rubber ball and began to play fetch with him and claiming she used to train a Doberman. She played fetch long enough for Percy and Grover to pass by and then followed them telling Cerberus she would play with him again sometime and he whined as she left. After the Master Bolt was returned to Mount Olympus and all seemed well, Percy was poisoned by Luke, and Annabeth was deeply hurt by Luke's betrayal.

The Sea of Monsters [11]Edit[]

In The Sea of Monsters, Annabeth returned once again to help Percy save the camp, though this time as friends, the previous tension between them as a result of their parentage was resolved by Percy's offer to put their differences aside. Annabeth arrives at Percy's new school to tell him what has happened at camp, but is wearing her cap so no one notices her. It is also found out that Percy carries around a picture of her which makes some of the other kids pick on him.

During gym, a group of Laistrygonians attack Percy, but Percy along with Tyson fight them off and Annabeth stabs the last on the back making her presence known. She then takes Percy and Tyson (reluctantly) with her to camp using the Gray Sisters' Taxi. While at camp, Annabeth and Percy decide to work together to make a chariot (like their parents) for the upcoming Chariot Race, but because of Annabeth's fear of Tyson, they have a fight and work on their own chariots. They do make up after an attack by some Stymphalian Birds because Thaila's tree is dying and the borders are weakening. After a dream Percy has, Annabeth realizes that Grover found the Golden Fleeceand ask Tantalus for a quest to get it, but he gives the quest to Clarisse. However, that night they sneak aboard a ship passing by the camp (with some help from Hermes and Poseidon) to search for the fleece themselves.

The ship they arrive on is the Princess Andromeda. A monster ship with Luke on it and they are forced to escape. Annabeth leads them to an old hideout used by her, Luke, and Thalia. She also tells Percy after sending Tyson outside why she hates cyclopes, until Tyson comes back with a hydra nearby. After battling the hydra with little effect, Clarisse arrives and takes them with her to the Sea of Monsters. After entering the sea, Percy and Annabeth are split up from everyone else and arrive at C.C.'s Spa and Resort. While Annabeth is given a full makeover, Percy is turned into a guinea pig. Annabeth outsmarts Circe and uses one of Hermes' multivitamins to turn Percy back and make them immune to magic for a short time. She then puts her knife to Circe's neck, and threatens her. They escape using Blackbeard's ship. Annabeth hears the Sirens' song while on the boat, and although she'd convinced Percy to tie her to the mast, he forgot to disarm her (celestial bronze knife) and she got hypnotized by the song. It is confirmed that her fatal flaw is hubris (pride), being a child of Athena.

She learned to accept Tyson, Percy's young Cyclops brother, overcoming a "bad experience" with a cyclops she had encountered in the past. When the fivesome, as they joined up with Clarisse (daughter of Ares), returned back to camp, Annabeth and Percy teamed up to win the chariot race waged between the cabins of the camp. Following their victory, Annabeth's perpetual facade of calm cracked slightly when she kissed Percy on the cheek. Afterward, while Annabeth is doing patrol for the camp, the fleece's magic works too well, causing Thalia's pine tree to 'give back' Thalia's spirit, causing Thalia to come back to life (though she wasn't really dead.

Also, after Clarisse's ship wrecks in the Sea of Monsters due to Scylla , Percy is thrown into the air, and he sees the ship explode, making him think that Tyson has been killed. After this, Percy then passes out, due to being hit by something hard while in the air, and hitting the water really hard. He wakes up on a boat next to Annabeth. He then asks about Tyson, and Annabeth says "Percy, I'm really sorry". Percy is deeply saddened by this. Afterward, however, while fighting Polyphemus, Tyson appears and throws a rock in Polyphemus's head therefore helping Percy, Annabeth, Grover, and Clarrise escape home to the camp, returning the fleece and saving Thalia's pine tree.

The Titan's Curse [12]Edit[]

In The Titan's Curse , Annabeth, Percy, and Thalia enter a school looking for two demigods that Grover had been looking after. They are stopped in a hallway by Dr. Thorn and Ms. Gottschalk, but Thalia uses the mist to convince them they were students. He lets them pass and the three go to the dance looking for the demigods and Grover. Annabeth and Percy start dancing and Annabeth says she has something very important to tell him, but are interrupted when Nico and Bianca dissapear. Annabeth goes to get Thalia and Grover while Percy rushes off to find the demigods only to be captured. When Annabeth and Thalia attack Dr. Thorn, the Hunters arrive to help fight it off. During the fight, Annabeth jumps on Dr. Thorn's back to stab him, but they both end up going over a cliff and vanish. Artemis says she will track down Dr. Thorn as the Goddess of the Hunt and the Hunters will go to camp.

Percy has a dream that Annabeth sees Luke holding up the sky and pleading for Annabeth to take it from him, which she does and is now trapped. When he wakes up, Grover tells Percy that Annabeth was asked to join the hunters and that was what she wanted to talk to him about at the dance. Later, Percy has another dream where Annabeth is still holding the sky and in order to trap Artemis, he tells her that if she doesn't take the sky from Annabeth, she will surely die from the weight. Artemis takes the sky and Annabeth falls to the ground and carried away by Luke who decides to use her as bait for the other demigods.

The Oracle of Delphi gave one of her ever-cryptic prophecies, and off went Percy, Thalia, Grover, Bianca di Angelo(a young Hunter whom Percy, Annabeth and Thalia were attempting to recruit along with her brother Nico di Angelo when Annabeth was taken) and the Huntress, Zoë Nightshade, in pursuit of Artemis and Annabeth and the monster which Artemis was chasing after. Aphrodite, Goddess of Love and Beauty, convinced Percy that his love for Annabeth was worthwhile, though she also made it incredibly harder for them to fall in love. Though Percy was originally not included in the quest, Nico di Angelo pleaded to him and convinced him to follow them to protect his sister, Bianca di Angelo. He was seemingly unable to leave the fate of his best friend in the hands of others. After a prolonged quest, which included the loss of Bianca di Angelo in the Junkyard of the Gods battle to a prototype ofTalos made by the forge god Hephaestus, the group arrived at the ruins of the Titans' palace, Mount Othrys in San Francisco, California, and found Annabeth, with a grey streak in her hair as a result of holding the sky andArtemis, who was struggling under the weight of the sky; both captives of Luke and Atlas.

Upon the reimprisonment of the Titan General Atlas, the death of Zoë Nightshade, and the apparent death of Luke (or so they thought, except Annabeth), Annabeth was saved by Percy and the others, along with her mortal father,Frederick Chase who attacked the monsters chasing the group using the celestial bronze bullets that he had made from things Annabeth had left behind when she ran away from home. Also, Annabeth's stepmom shows care for Annabeth in this book when she tells Percy that even though she knows that Annabeth is a demigod and can't live in San Francisco because of Mount Orthys, the Titan base camp, she still has a home with them and can come anytime she wants.

The Battle of the Labyrinth[13]Edit[]

In The Battle of the Labyrinth, Annabeth is now 14 years old. She and Percy were supposed to go to the movies after his orientation day into his new school, Goode. However, their plans are interrupted when Percy (again) blows up part of the school in a fight with some monsters, Kelli and Tammi, who were apparently empousai in the forms of cheerleaders. Her possesiveness for Percy is revealed when she becomes annoyed at him after she finds him escaping with the mortal girl Rachel Elizabeth Dare. She has a fight with Percy and refuses to speak to him for a while.

Once back at camp, Percy and Annabeth accidentally discover an entrance to the Labyrinth under the rock pile known as Zeus's Fist while on a camp game designed personally by Quintus who was actually Daedalus, the inventor and the creator of the Labyrinth. She realizes that Luke can use this entrance to invade the camp at any moment unexpected. Annabeth leads the quest into the Labyrinth, fulfilling one of her many ambitions at last. While studying the Labyrinth, Percy walks in on her. Annabeth was frustrated and held out her arms so Percy could give her a hug. He remarks that her hair smelled like lemon soap.

Later, Annabeth descends into the Labyrinth with Percy, Grover, and Tyson (Percy's half brother and a very goodcyclops) to find a way to stop Kronos's evil forces from invading the borders of Camp Half-Blood by searching for its inventor, Daedalus. The Oracle of Delphi gave her a prophecy which appears to have scared her and she refuses to say the last line. As they go into the Labyrinth, they face and fight many monsters. Annabeth faces aSphinx and finds its riddles (which were actually factual questions) not challenging and an insult to her intellect. They escape the claws of the Sphinx and continue on to find Hephaestus in one of his many forges so he can tell them about where to find Daedalus and his workshop in the Labyrinth. Annabeth believes that Percy will die whenMount Saint Helens erupts but right before he goes in she kisses him for good luck.

Percy was instead marooned on the phantom island of Ogygia when he tried his best to fight the telekhines, half-dog half-monsters, who were perpetrating Hephaestus's once favorite of all of his many forges, where the sad but seductive Calypso resides. When Annabeth sees Percy return (while she is burning his shroud, believing him to be dead) she hugs him fiercely, but quickly lets go when she realizes she is making a big scene in front of all the other campers. When she finds out what happened to Percy after he tells her and Chiron in Chiron's office in theBig House, Annabeth angrily exits after guessing where he was stranded and obviously feeling jealous. Percy asks mortal Rachel Elizabeth Dare, much to Annabeth's dismay. Annabeth makes several offending remarks toward Rachel, who simply shrugs them off and after a long while, Annabeth accepts her as their guide. The three of them discover Luke, who has become Kronos's vessel. After the Battle of the Labyrinth from the entrance of the Labyrinth under Zeus's Fist in the woods, Luke and his army are forced back into the Labyrinth, leaving after causing many, but only two named, casualties.

In The Last Olympian, Annabeth joins forces with the campers and goes to New York City to save Manhattan andMount Olympus (over the Empire State Building) itself from Kronos' Titan army in the Battle of Manhattan. At one point, she takes a poisoned knife for Percy, that Ethan Nakamura was using to try to stab him. Even though she does know Percy was invincible, Annabeth jumps in the way and takes the stab, defenseless. It is later revealed that if she hadn't taken the dagger for Percy, he would have died, because his only weak spot, the small of his back, was Ethan's target though it is unknown how Ethan knew about the weak spot it or Ethan may have not been aiming for any spot in particular as he told Kronos.

Percy gets Blackjack, his black pegasus, to fly her away, takes Kronos on, and is forced to retreat. When Percy checks on Annabeth, he decides to tell her where his Achilles heel is. Annabeth is the only person that knows where it is besides Percy. While Annabeth is resting because of the poisoned knife, she tells Percy that Luke had visited her before they went into the Labyrinth, explaining why Hermes, the messager of the gods, the patron of thieves, and others, was mad at her for not saving Luke when she had the chance to, and she also states that Percy looks "cute" when he is worried. When it is discovered that Silena was the spy, Percy describes Annabeth looking as if "The world had just been pulled from underneath her feet."

Annabeth saves Percy and Olympus by finally realizing for whom the prophecy is truly meant for: Luke. She tells Percy to give Luke her knife (that was Luke's gift to her when she was seven) so he can stab himself, which would banish Kronos back to Tartarus though there is no evidence to where the spirit of Kronos went to after Luke sacrificed himself since they were up high above Manhattan in the Hall of the Gods in the Olympian gods' throne room on Olympus. Annabeth is rewarded by the gods (actually by her own mother Athena), now being able to fulfill her dream and design for the gods a new city on Olympus, as the old one was ruined by the battle (actually destroyed by Kronos when he invaded Olympus through the Empire State Building entrance to Olympus. She is also allowed to design the new cabins at Camp Half-Blood.

She and Percy celebrate his 16th birthday privately, in the apparently empty dining pavilion of Camp Half-Blood. Percy attempts to tell her that he has strong feelings for her, but she is amused, up until the point he states that she is not making it easy for him to admit it. She laughs and warns him that she will never, ever make things easy for him, and that he should get used to it, wraps her arms around his neck, and kisses him. Percy said that it felt like his brain was melting through his body, and that he could have stayed like that forever, until Clarisse and several other nosy campers eavesdrop on the whole episode and throw Percy and Annabeth into the camp lake. However, Percy creates an air bubble deep under the surface of the lake, because he is a son of Poseidon, and they share, as Percy describes "the best underwater kiss of all time." In the end of The Last Olympian, Percy is relieved that Annabeth is staying in New York and they leave Camp Half-Blood together.

The Heroes of Olympus[14]Edit[]

The Lost Hero[15]Edit[]

In the beginning of The Lost Hero, Annabeth appears in a chariot pulled by pegasi with Butch, a demigod son ofIris, the carrier of messages through rainbow "Iris-messages" for the gods and the rainbow goddess, to pick up the three demigods Jason Grace, son of Jupiter (Zeus's Roman counterpart), Piper McLean, daughter of Aphrodite, goddess of Love, Passion, and Beauty, and Leo Valdez, the son of the forge god, Hephaestus. It is revealed she and Percy are still dating. Annabeth and Butch, went to the Grand Canyon in search for Percy, who has been missing for three days. Annabeth had been receicing visions from Hera, the goddess of marriage, the Queen of Heaven and the sister-wife of Zeus, that a hero with one shoe, which she finds out is Jason, will solve her problems, which is finding Percy. She is also shown frustrated and worried with Percy's disappearance. Before leaving the Grand Canyon, Annabeth yells to the sky, "What do you want from me? What have you done with him?"

Annabeth gives Piper a tour of Camp Half-Blood, also leting Piper choose her weapon Katoptris, then explaining that Piper's relationship with Jason at The Wilderness School was an illusion due to the Mist and wanting to give Piper a chance to break down privately when she realized the same thing, though she has been holding herself together as well, it is obvious that Annabeth is equally crushed at losing Percy so mysteriously.

When Jason is given his quest to rescue Hera from the capture of Polyphrion the giant, Annabeth refuses to accompany the quest group, partly because the prophecy states that children of Hephaestus, Jupiter/Zeus, and Aphrodite will go instead, and partly out of her own distaste for Hera. Instead, she uses the time they are gone to continue her search for Percy.

After the quest group returns and relates their findings — the rise of the giants, the attempted return of Gaea, and the fact that Jason was "exchanged" to the Greek Camp Half-Blood — Annabeth puts everything together and realizes, as Jason has, that Percy has been taken to the Roman Camp Half-Blood as the corresponding half of the exchange. She vows to accompany Jason, Piper, and Leo when they journey there to retrieve him.

The Son of Neptune[16]Edit[]

While Percy is running away from the Gorgons Stheno and Euryale, he sees San Fransisco, which reminds him of Annabeth, the only person he can remember from his past. Also, when Percy talked to Lupa , she told him that if he completed his quest, he would see Annabeth again soon.

Personality[17]Edit[]

She looked just the way she had when she'd faced the Sphinx-like she wasn't going to accept an easy answer, even if it got her in serious trouble.

Percy Jackson, thinking about Annabeth's personality in The Battle of the Labyrinth.

Annabeth loves architecture, and spends her free time designing new buildings and visiting national monuments. Her fatal flaw is hubris, otherwise known as pride: she thinks she can do anything and do it well, even better than the gods. Percy gains insight into this flaw during The Sea of Monsters, when he sees Annabeth's vision as she listens to the song of the Sirens.

Annabeth can be very possessive of the people she loves. For example, she is very anxious of losing Percy to another girl like Rachel or Calypso. Like in the fourth book, the Battle of the Labyrinth, assuming that Percy is dead, she speaks to the crowd, saying, "He was probably the bravest friend I ever had". Yet when Percy emerged, and Annabeth finds out about Calypso and then calls him the "single most annoying person I've ever met!"

Annabeth is very harsh and judgemental during first meetings, but after winning her approval she is very loyal. She is very strong and equally stubborn.

Fatal Flaw[18]Edit[]

Don't you ever feel like, what if the world really is messed up? What if we could do it all over again from scratch?

–Annabeth, about how her fatal flaw makes her feel to Percy Jackson in The Sea of Monsters

Hubris, or deadly pride. Annabeth believes that she's able to do anything: get her parents back together, build great monuments, and save Luke as shown in The Sea of Monsters. She sometimes even thinks she could rebuild the world, even better than how the gods did it. She explains this to Percy in The Sea of Monsters, while trying to escape the sirens. When he thinks that a world run by him would be terrible, she says he is lucky he doesn't have hubris, because it is a really dangerous fatal flaw.

Fears[19]Edit[]

Like all other half-blood children of Athena, Annabeth has immense arachnophobia, freezing up just when she sees one or anything that bears a close resemblance to spiders. This fear is because of Athena's bad history with Arachne the mother of spiders and Arachne's hatred of Athena. A long time ago, the mortal Arachne challenged Athena to see who could make the best tapestry. Athena accepted the challenge, and the two both made a tapestry. Athena's tapestry was of the gods punishing mortals for being too full of pride. Arachne's tapestry insulted the gods by showing them being idiots. Athena destroyed the tapestry out of rage because her and Arachne's tapestry was insulting the Gods immensely (and maybe also because her tapestry and Arachne's tapestry were equal in beauty), and Arachne was then turned into a spider. Ironically, Arachne could still use the web from her spinnerets to make silk. Ever since then, Athena's children have been paranoid that every spider they see is out to get them - which is largely true. According to Annabeth, spiders are unusually aggressive to children of Athena. Also, in The Demigod Files, inside her trunk is a bottle of anti-spider bug spray. In the Lightning Thief, Percy says that she was "screaming her head off" when they were in the Tunnel of Love ride to get Ares's shield. In the Lightning Thief, Annabeth stated that any spider within the radius of one mile would be able to find her.

Annabeth is also scared of Cyclopes due of an event in her childhood when Luke, Thalia, and her were trapped by one when trying to make it to camp. She finds it very creepy when a cyclops mimics another persons voice such as when Tyson mimics the voices he hears on the Princess Andromeda. Though not as scared of cyclopes as she is of spiders, it still takes her most of The Sea of Monsters to be able to get close to Tyson, even though he helped her a lot.

Appearance[20]Edit[]

Annabeth has long, curly blond hair "like a princess." Percy said that she "looked like a typical California girl, except her stormy gray eyes ruined the image." Percy claimed her eyes looked calculating, like she was analyzing whoever she was looking at during a first meeting, as if thinking of the best way to take the person down in a fight. She has tanned skin, a great figure, and apparently looks very athletic. She often wears a ponytail, her magical Yankee cap (though only in a fight, since it turns hers invisble) and/or her orange Camp Half-Blood t-shirt.Percy Jackson once claimed in The Demigod Files that "most people can't look cute in full Greek armor, but Annabeth pulled it off." In The Last Olympian, Percy starts to think of her as "seriously beautiful", even though she had only been "cute" before. In the movie, she has straight brown hair, along with blue-gray eyes.

Jason Grace also described Annabeth's eyes were like calculating a million things at one time, and when he entered the Rec Room for the Counselor Meeting, he said that Annabeth had "an expectant look, as if she were trying to extract information out of him by sheer willpower."

Powers/Abilities[21]Edit[]

  • She has her mother's wisdom and is very intelligent and clever.
  • She is knowledgeable in architecture and the Greek gods and creatures, which is very useful in journeys and battles.
  • She can turn invisible (with her Yankees invisibility cap given to her by her mother).
  • She is a master strategist.
  • She knows hand-to-hand combat (she was trained during her stay at Camp Half-Blood).
  • She fights best with a knife given to her by Luke when she was seven.
  • Like most demigods, she is diagnosed with dyslexia. This means her brain is "hard-wired" for Ancient Greek.
  • She also has ADHD, which is a sign of a demigod's heightened senses and aptitude for battle.
  • Annabeth was known for her memory. She never forgot something she heard (i.e. a promise).

Weapons and Magical Items[22]Edit[]

  • A magical Yankees baseball cap that makes anyone turn invisible when put it is on, given to her as a gift from her mom.
  • A Celestial bronze knife that she uses as a weapon. This knife was given to Annabeth by Luke Castellan. It was later cursed when Luke betrayed Annabeth and Percy.
  • A necklace with beads from every year at Camp Half-Blood. It also has her father's college ring on it.
  • Medea's SPF 50,000 sunscreen, tropical coconut scented.
  • A waterproof yellow duffel bag from Hermes.
  • A spider automaton that helped her, Percy, Grover, and Tyson find Hephaestus (she is quite scared of it because of her arachnophobia, unknown what happened to it after book 4)
  • A Pair of Daedalus' Wings after the fight in Daedalus' Workshop in the Labyrinth.
  • A laptop with Daedalus' notes and designs, given to her by Daedalus at the end of The Battle of the Labyrinth after the battle before he died.
  • A video shield during The Last Olympian, made by Charles Beckendorf, a son of Hephaestus, designed by Daedalus.

Relationships[23]Edit[]

Percy Jackson[26]Edit[]

A key subplot in the series is the relationship between Annabeth, Percy, and Luke Castellan. Luke is Annabeth's hero and one of her first half-blood friends. Annabeth likes Percy, which she hints at, but she still has lingering feelings of kinship towards Luke. At the end of The Last Olympian, Luke shows slight feelings for her, like an older brother. These feeling are present despite the fact that Luke and Percy are arch enemies and he has attempted to kill Percy numerous times.

In The Sea of Monsters, it emerges that one of her life's wishes is to save Luke. In the beginning of The Lightning Thief, Annabeth is shown to dislike Percy when she discovers that Percy is the hero of the prophecy. She thinks he is weak and unable to complete his mission, and is influenced by the rivalry between her mother, Athena, and Percy's father, Poseidon. At the very end ofThe Sea of Monsters, Annabeth kisses Percy on the cheek after winning the chariot race.

In The Titan's Curse, there are suggestions of some romance between Annabeth and Percy, although this is complicated by her continuing belief in Luke and the fact that her mother, Athena, disapproves of her "relationship" with Percy and tells Percy this face to face after the vote to have him destroyed. When asked if they would let him live, Athena was one of the gods that didn't raise her hand (majority ruled, but it is unknown if she would of raised her hand to have him destroyed as Zeus never asked) and had told the other gods that keeping him alive was dangerous, something that caused Annabeth to become aggravated with her mother.

In The Battle of the Labyrinth, Annabeth finally expresses her feelings for Percy by kissing him good luck before she vanishes using her magic Yankee's cap ("She glared at me like she was about to punch me. What she did next, surprised me more. She kissed me. 'Be careful, Seaweed Brain.' Then she put on her cap and vanished. I could've sat there all day, staring at the lava, trying to remember what my name was, but the sea demons jarred me back to reality."). When Percy returns, she is highly jealous, because she suspects he has been withCalypso, who is cursed to fall in love with any hero that lands on her phantom island, Ogygia.

In The Demigod Files, Annabeth asked Percy to the Fourth of July fireworks which is "the biggest dating event of the summer." During her interview Annabeth states that Percy is courageous, has a sense of humor and is good-looking ("but don't you dare tell him I said that"). She also says that he's oblivious to how people feel even when it is totally obvious, although she tries (and fails) to hide what she is really talking about ("... he doesn't see really obvious stuff, like the way people feel, even when you're giving him hints, and being totally blatant. What? No, I'm not talking about anyone or anything in particular! I'm just making a general statement. Why does everyone always think... agh! Forget it.").

In The Last Olympian, after the defeat of Kronos and the saving of Luke's soul, the romantic relationship between Percy and Annabeth is solidified. Annabeth also states Percy looks "cute when he's worried" when he first checks on her after she took a knife that was meant for him. Annabeth confides to Luke as he dies that she always saw him as a brother, but never loved him. When Percy was offered immortality by the Olympians (actually by Zeus himself and voted for by the rest of the gods), Percy saw that Annabeth was very pale, and he suspected she was having a panic similar to the one he had when he thought she was going to join the Hunters of Artemis. Later, she and Percy share their second kiss after he tries to tell her how he feels about her and tells him that she will never make things easy for him. He describes it as if 'his brain felt it was melting through his body'. But a raid campers lead by Clarisse snoop on this and throw them into the camp lake. Then comes to a third kiss underwater in an air bubble made by Percy under the surface of the lake who says it was 'the best underwater kiss of all time' because "When you're the son of Poseidon, you don't have to hurry." They are together as of the end of the Percy Jackson series. It is hinted that they might be married one day in the future, as Annabeth said she wanted "to build something permanent," and Percy states that maybe they were "getting a good start together." Percy was her first kiss.

In The Lost Hero, it is said that Percy and Annabeth are still dating. Percy goes missing for three days and Annabeth becomes very worried. Annabeth starts getting visions that telling her to go to the Grand Canyon to find someone with one shoe. Annabeth thought that person would be Percy, her boyfriend, but instead it was Jason Grace, son of Jupiter, Zeus's Roman counterpart. She gets mad at him, because she wants to find Percy instead. She yells at the sky saying," What do you want from me? What have you done with him?" At the end of the book, it is revealed that Percy and Jason are switched because they are both war leaders of each camp, much to Annabeth's dismay. She says that she will join Jason, Piper, and Leo on their next quest to go to the Roman Camp Half-Blood to look for Percy and find the other possible demigods (the Roman ones who should be on the quest to cooperate with the Greek demigods against the Giants and the earth goddess Gaia on the War against the Giants and Gaia) to save the Olympian gods' original home of Mount Olympus, the actual mountain sitting in Greece and the Olympian gods' elder roots.

Luke Castellan[27]Edit[]

[28]Luke CastellanAdded by Lpslover989

The relationship between Luke and Annabeth becomes a constant source of conflict between her and Percy. Annabeth started to like Luke when he gave her his knife on the streets. During the events of The Lightning Thief , before Percy and Annabeth began to develop feelings for each other, Annabeth introduces Luke to Percy and acts shy around him. When Grover, Annabeth, and Percy sent an Iris message to camp, Luke appears on the other side of the rainbow and Annabeth immediately tries to clean herself off and begins to mess with her hair. After Luke betrays the camp and almost kills Percy, she takes it very hard.

It wasn’t until The Sea of Monsters that she and Luke meet again on his cruise ship. He offers her a place in the Titan army and says that if Thalia were alive, she would have joined his side too. When Annabeth refuses, she escapes and leads Percy to a secret hideout, revealing how she met Luke and the promise that he and Thalia would be her new family.

During the events of the next few books, Annabeth begins to show feelings for Percy, but every time Percy brings up the fact that they have to stop Luke, Annabeth would always defend him. Even during the events of The Titan's Curse when Percy believed that Luke was dead, Annabeth had a feeling that he wasn’t. In The Battle of the Labyrinth, Percy believes that Luke has become completely lost to them after forcing Percy to fight another demigod and almost kills Annabeth and Rachel. When he makes off handed remarks after they escape about how evil Luke has become, this greatly upsets Annabeth and she begins to yell at Percy for being so cold.

During the Battle of Manhattan, in The Last Olympian, Luke asks Annabeth whether she ever loved him while taking her hand. Percy looks at her, "drinking in the fact that she was still there" and Annabeth tells Luke "You were like a brother to me, Luke, but I didn't love you." Luke just nods, having expected this, and dies moments later.

Friends[29]Edit[]

Annabeth is very territorial about her friends.

Chiron, about Annabeth in The Battle of the Labyrinth

Sally Jackson[30]Edit[]

It is believed by Sally that Annabeth is the most levelheaded demigod to ever to hit the eighth grade. She also believes that she keeps Percy from getting killed. Percy secretly admits to this statement.

Thalia Grace[31]Edit[]

Annabeth is best friends with Thalia, first meeting her when she was seven and had run away from home. After Thalia sacrificed herself, to save her, Luke, and Grover her respect grew. Thalia's father, Zeus, transformed her into a pine tree to save her from death after she sacrificed herself. Thalia returned with the magical powers of The Golden Fleece and Annabeth re-established their close friendship, for example going in the same school together in The Titan's Curse.

Grover Underwood[32]Edit[]

Grover was one of Annabeth's closest friends, helping her get to Camp Half-Blood. They remained friends throughout their relationship, and fought together often. Grover usually showed his concern for her, too. In the end of' The Last Olympian when Percy is fighting Luke, it is shown that, to protect her, Grover is holding Annabeth.

Rachel Elizabeth Dare[33]Edit[]

Annabeth was jealous of and possibly despised Rachel (because of the romance conflict over Percy), but has saved her life more than once. For a while she starts to like her a little more, once she realizes Percy and Rachel are only friends. After Rachel became the new Oracle (making her prohibited from dating anybody), the two have reconciled and have become good friends, as shown in The Lost Hero.

Family[34]Edit[]

Mortal Family[35]Edit[]

Annabeth has had several issues with her mortal family. After her dad remarried, she grew distant from him. She often ran away from home, and succeeded in doing so when she was seven, joining Luke and Thalia. After some time, she reestablished contact, and occasionally met with them. They tried to make it work three times, with the third one finally working out for the most. Around The Titan's Curse, it seems her relationship with them is getting better, and by The Last Olympian she seems to be living with them again (though, this is not for certain because she is going to go to a school in New York near Percy's, and her family lives in San Francisco).

Athena[36]Edit[]

[37]Athena, Annabeth's motherAdded by SupernadoIn the Lightning Thief movie Annabeth sees her mother for the first time but in the lightning thief book Annabeth states that she had been to Mt.Olympus with some other campers (Luke and Clarrisse are two of the campers) at the solstice. Athena also gave Annabeth the invisible Yankees cap as a twelfth birthday present. Annabeth has a close relationship with her mother, despite meeting her very little. Her mother trusts her and seems to see Annabeth as her pride and joy . They seem to discuss many things and have a set of plans in preparation for any catastrophe. Athena made Annabeth, the new architect of Olympus after the damage from The Battle of Manhattan. She disapproves of her relationship with Percy, and even claims that keeping him alive would be dangerous to the gods, much to the grief of her daughter. She seems to have accepted it in the end, though reluctantly and even helped Percy escape Hoover Dam without Annabeth's knowledge in the Titans Curse.

Other Immortals[38]Edit[]

Dionysus - Dionysus often got Annabeth's name wrong, and seemed to care very little for her, despite being her camp director as well as her uncle.

Artemis - Annabeth respects Artemis, and one point Annabeth had considered joining the hunt but decided against it, because she didn't want to swear off boys forever. Artemis does not seem to hold ill will to her from this choice, however. In the Demigod Files, Annabeth is asked who the wisest god/goddess is apart from her mom and she states, "I've always admired Artemis, too... She spends more time in the mortal world than most gods, too, so she understands what's going on. She doesn't understand guys, though. I guess nobody's perfect."

Poseidon - Annabeth hasn't spoken to Poseidon directly, but unlike Athena, Poseidon has not shown any ill will to his son's relationship with her (in fact, he may even support it considering her and Percy's third kiss was in his domain).

Kronos - Kronos, her great-grandfather, was one of Annabeth's main enemies. She helped fight him, along with her friends, and in the end was largely responsible for his destruction.

Hera - Annabeth has a terrible relationship with Queen Hera. In the 4th book of the series, she helps Annabeth and her companions in their quest many times. However, at the end of the book Annabeth accuses her of wanting perfect families and not caring about their 'imperfect' family members. This enrages Hera who curses her after this, sending "intestinally challenged cows" after her. She tries to injure Annabeth with her statue at Olympus though ends up trapping her stepdaughter Thalia. In The Lost Hero, Annabeth does not seem to care if Hera is killed or imprisoned forever; she believes that it is a favor for them and that Hera is getting what she deserves (and this resentment towards Hera may have increased from the "gamble" Hera made by sending Percy to the other camp, with possibly no memory of her whatsoever).

The Hunters of Artemis[39]Edit[]

Annabeth was very close to joining the Hunters when she was a kid. This is known when Grover finds a brochure about the Hunt in her backpack, and Thalia states: "Annabeth wanted to join the Hunters. Maybe you should think about why." Another possible hint was when Percy and Annabeth were dancing in the military school, they are talking about her problems of moving to San Francisco. She says, "It's more serious than that. Percy I...I should probably tell you something." This could possibly mean that she was going to join the hunt to escape monsters and her problems. But in the end, she decides against it, and in her interview in The Demigod Files, when asked about what other god she thought on the Olympian council was wise, she begins talking about Artemis. She says, "She doesn't understand guys, though. I guess nobody's perfect."

Film[40]Edit[]

The Lightning Thief[41]Edit[]

Annabeth is portrayed by Alexandra Daddario. Unlike the books, Annabeth has brown hair instead of blonde.[42]Added by Luna-daughter of Artemis

In the film, Annabeth is seen at Camp Half-Blood after Percy's battle with theMinotaur, fighting several campers at once and beating them all during a camp tradition of Capture the Flag. She later takes on Percy during a game ofCapture the Flag and very easily defeats him, until he goes to the water (the camp stream) to heal himself, which he then proceeds to fight her more forcefully and successfully disarms her. Later, Annabeth decides to go on the quest with Percy and Grover. Medusa specifically wants to kill her because her mother, Athena, cursed her. Grover saves Annabeth while Percy distracts Medusa; she drives the car that knocks Medusa to the ground to give Percy time to escape and slay her with his celestial bronze sword, Riptide. Then, after securing Medusa's head for potential further use, Percy and Annabeth have a conversation by a motel pool the night before assaulting the replica of the Parthenon in Nashville, Tennessee.

They discuss their parents and the conversation seems to be heading towards even more personal subjects, but Grover interrupts them. Annabeth heads to the Underworld with Percy and Grover, then to Mount Olympus where she sees Luke's betrayal for herself. OnOlympus, Annabeth meets her mother for the first time. It is assumed that this was one of her life-long wishes. She is a formidable fighter and shows her book counterpart's ability to react to events that happened in Greek mythology, such as warning Percy about the Hydra in the fight in Nashville (which was in the guise of the replica Parthenon's janitors) and the story of Hercules and Hermes going to the Underworld.
